A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE

...one old love

she can imagine

going back to...

and one who reminds

her how far she has come...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE

...enough money within her

control to move out and

rent a place of her own

even if she never wants

to or needs to...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE

.. something perfect to wear if

the employer or date of her dreams

wants to see her in an hour...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE

.. a youth she's content

to leave behind...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE

...a past juicy enough that

she's looking forward to

retelling it in her old age....

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE

...a set of screwdrivers, a

cordless drill, and a black

lace bra...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE

..one friend who always makes

her laugh ... and one who lets

her cry...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE

...a good piece of furniture

not previously owned by anyone

else in her family...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE

...eight matching plates, wine

glasses with stems, and a recipe

for a meal that will make her

guests feel honored.

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE

...a feeling of control over

her destiny...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

....how to fall in love without

losing herself...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

..how to quit a job,

break up with a lover,

and confront a friend

without ruining the friendship...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

...when to try harder ... and

when to walk away...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

....that she can't change the

length of her calves, the width

of her hips, or the nature of her

parents...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

...that her childhood may not

have been perfect...but its

over...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

...what she would and wouldn't

do for love or more...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

..how to live alone... even if

she doesn't like it...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

...whom she can trust,

whom she can't,

and why she shouldn't

take it personally...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

...where to go...

be it to her best friend's kitchen
table...

or a charming inn in the woods...

when her soul needs soothing...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

.. what she can and can't

accomplish in a day...

a month...and a year...

I tear my heart open, I sew myself shut

My weakness is that I care too much

And our scars remind us that the past is real

I tear my heart open just to feel

europe

okie i finally have alittle time for this ...

so ive been traveling ALOT ...

here the europe trip

VENICE
My vacation has finally come to an end and it is time for me to step back into reality. Italy and Paris were amazing. I loved every minute of it and I learned so much about the history and culture of the places I visited...I will definitely go back and explore the rest of Europe some day. I can't possibly describe all that we saw and experienced through out our 2 weeks away. Pictures do no justice...I've probably seen all the things we went to in pictures, but it was a hundred times better to have seen it with my own eyes. I think the most impressive of all was the statue of David in Florence. The amount of detail chiseled to perfection was mind blowing...Every vein and strand of hair was visible, it was just so amazing to see...I coulda stared at David all day long! That Michelangelo was one talented artist!

We did a lot of stuff in a short amount of time, spending about 3 days in each city and even tho we took public transportation, we walked at least 10 miles a day.

Our hotels were all booked for us except for the first night we arrived in Venice...that, we had to figure out on our own. We ended up staying at a hotel in the Jewish Ghetto. The hotel was not all that impressive but for the price we paid, it was not bad. There were five twin beds for the 5 of us, all crammed into one little room. We were lucky enough to have gotten the room with a bathroom in it, or else we would have had to use the communal shower and toilets down the hall.

Even tho Venice gave the appearance of gloomy clouds, it was hot there. Really humid and since the Grand Canal was everywhere, so were the mosquitos. We were so not prepared for that! Venice is a small city, known for it's glass blown art and masks, and most of all its Grand canal, arched bridges and gondolas. We walked mostly everywhere but we took the water bus also. Things in Venice are pricy...especially the food...but eating pasta and drinking wine everyday gets old. We kinda got sick of the food, even gelato after a while. I loved the pizza tho...it was delicious.

Things in Venice didn't open as early as we thought they did and between taking our 4 hour naps during the day, because of the heat and we were just plain tired from all the walking,

we saw St. Mark's Square, Golden Basilica, the Ducal Palace, the New Prison and Bridge of Sighs. I wish I had known more of the history and significance of the buildings and monuments before I went, but good thing we had Tom with us, cuz he knew quite a bit.

FLORENCE
We took about a 3 hour train ride from Venice to Florence, which was nice cuz we got to watch the beautiful Tuscany countryside of Italy go by. After dropping off all our stuff at the hotel, we decided to hop on a random bus and see where it would take us. It took us right to the Duomo and Gates of Paradise. The building and architecture was amazing. Everything had a story behind it...the paintings, the statues...and it was so detailed. We then hopped back onto a random bus hoping we would end up at another tourist destination, but unfortunately we were not so lucky. We were lost for a bit but it was still fun.

Piazzale Michelangelo was one of my favourite places in Florence. Not only was there a magnificent view of Florence from the terrace, but there was a cute little outdoor cafe where we had our dinner and watched the sunset. Perfect for shooting a diamond advertisement...

S
IENA
We walked the streets of Florence and was surprised to find the squares quite lively. Musicians performed on the street promoting their music and there was this crazy fire lady dancing about and eating fire.

Going to Florence would not be complete if we didn't got to Accademia di Belle Arti to see the statue of David. There were a couple of replicas around the city but they were nothing compared to the real thing. You really do have to see it with your own eyes to be able to appreciate it. We also went to the Uffizi Museum, the best part being The Mind of Leonardo Da Vinci, and had a quick peek inside Palazzo Vecchio, where the Fountain of Neptune is located.

PISA

The main attraction? The Leaning Tower of Pisa! It is actually the bell tower for the cathedral next to it, and of course all the tourists were taking pictures of themselves pushing the tower back up. It took us about half an hour to walk from the train station to the tower and by that time we were starving! With the beautiful yet hot weather in Italy, we often ate outside on the restaurant patios. At the one we ate at in Pisa, our waiter was this senile yet energetic old man who spoke little English. He forgot to bring out most of our meal and it was really difficult trying to explain to him that we hadn't gotten our food yet so we had to go to the boss and explain. By the end of it we had lost our appetite but the senile old man was still happy even tho it seemed like his boss was yelling at him for messing up. It was all good tho...ended up being a funny experience.

t
Since we had done about all we wanted to do in Florence we decided to take a trip to Siena. We didn't really know where to go, so we basically just walked around and made our way to Piazza Del Campo and ate an early dinner at Al Mangia. We all had the Siennese Chicken which was very tasty and then of course gelato afterwards.

rome
Rome was the biggest city in our Italy trip and altho each place was different from the next, I could feel the history in everything that we saw because the buildings dated back to Ancient Rome. There was so much to see that I've forgotten half the names of the places we visited. The first day we arrived, we went to the Colosseum...we actually took a tour and it was really helpful because we found out so much stuff that we didn't know before, and the tour guide was very entertaining. We also had a tour of Palatino (old rome). Later that night we went on a pub crawl (we got a flier from the ppl who were giving the tour at the Colosseum) and it met up in front of a church of all places. It was interesting because there were a bunch of ppl just drinking on the steps and we were around the fountain...I have no idea where we wen
but we went to a few bars and at each bar we got a free shot (altho there really wasn't much alcohol in it). We met a lot of ppl from here and there...it was a fun night!

The next day we saw the Pantheon and some other buildings and fountains. The Spanish Steps looked a lot better in postcards cuz when we got there, a huge scaffolding was covering half of the church at the top and there were no pretty flowers. That was a bit of a disappointment but the Trevi Fountain made up for it. It was really crowded with tourists whether it was day or night.

We went to a huge botanical garden at Piazza Popolo where there was a great view of Rome. We saw all these people riding bikes and it looked really fun so we decided to rent a bike that fit all of us and took it for a ride! It was quite a work out
..riding all around especially when we had to go uphill!

On our last day, we went to the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's Basilisca and climbed 320 steps up a narrow, spiraly staircase to the cupola

PARIS
Paris was no doubt everyone's favourite place, most beautiful when it's lit up at night. We flew from Rome to Paris on Ryanair...a cheap domestic airline that was super uncomfortable. We stayed in the most ritzy area of Paris where everything was expensive but close to a lot of the attractions. Paris was the one place that I did my research on and although we didn't get to do everything that was planned, we sure did a lot of stuff in the short amount of time we had there! My French really sucks now. Even though I took it for ten years of my life...what a waste! If you don't use it you lose it...so true.

Arc de Triomphe was the first place we went to. We went to the top for the panoramic view of Paris (what tourist spot doesn't have a building/monument for a panoramic view of the city?). We walked down Champs-Elysees, which is basically just a highway were a lot of historical stuff happened but is now an area for shopping and dining, all the way to Place do Concorde where there is an obelisk and pretty fountains. Everything in Paris lights up at around 9pm and it is so pretty when it's all turned on...it's like the city is brought to life! We walked passed Pont Neuf, the most decorated bridge in Paris, to the Eiffel Tower. It was pretty chilly in Paris, and having just come from Italy, none of us were prepared for the cold weather. We bought the ticket to go to the third level of the Eiffel Tower but ended up only going to the second cuz it was too windy and cold. I was kinda disappointed just cuz I wanted to go to the top...but really going up to the second level is high enou
We did two museums in one day: the Louvre and Orsay. There was so much stuff to see it was impossible to get through it all. We seriously walked around the Louvre non stop for three hours straight! My favourite stuff in the Louvre was the Venus de Milo statue and the Winged Victory statue. We also saw the Mona Lisa and a bunch of other stuff...The Louvre covers ever imaginable art form possible from different countries. The Orsay Museum was more about paintings from artists like Monet, Van Gogh etc. It made for one tiring day! We walked through Jardin des Tuileries, I nice garden adjacent to the Louvre. After taking a much needed nap we went on a boat cruise on the Seine and saw a bunch of the different historic buildings. We didn't get to go to the Notre Dame Cathedral, the Grand Palace or Sacred Heart like I was hoping...but I guess that can wait til next time! Well, we were going to go to Sacred Heart but we kinda got lost in the red light district instead and ended up eating some very tasty mussels for dinner. We also tried Absinthe, which tastes like black licorice and is really disgusting. Maybe we got some shoddy Absinthe cuz it didn't do anything but leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Our last day in Paris we made a trek out to Versaille to see the grand chateau of Louis the XIV or XVI...I don't remember. It was a ridiculously huge...how anyone lived in such a enormous piece of land is a mystery to me...but even more impressive than the actual palace was the garden in the back. It was like a forest...probably larger than some small cities. We went rowing on the man made canal which was a lot of fun...I tried to row but I didn't have enough arm muscle. I'm sure we didn't even get to half of the estate but we had to get back to Paris for our flight...

BYE BYE europe

We had a 12 hour layover in Dusseldorf, Germany...we were planning to explore a little bit but it was late and all of us had used up all our Euros, so some of us slept while others stayed up all night long! I had so much fun on the trip mostly cuz I love travelling, but also cuz of the ppl...it makes all the difference who you travel with and I'm glad I got to go with this group. I can't wait to do some more travelling!

Guess we both know we're in over our heads
We got nowhere to go and no home that's left
The water is rising on a river turning red
It all might be ok or we might be dead
If everything we've got is slipping away
I meant what I said when I said until my dying day
I'm holding on to you, holding on to me
Myabe it's all gone black but you're all I see
You're all I see

The walls are shaking, I hear them sound the alarm
Glass is breaking so don't let go of my arm
Grab your bags and a picture of where we met
All that we'll leave behind and all that's left
If everything we've got is blowing away
We've got a rock and a rock till our dying day
I'm holding on to you, holding on to me
Maybe it's all we got but it's all i need
You're all i need
